I am having a technical problem using Simply Accounting 2008 (student version). I am creating my own company and entering the accounts in the Chart of Accounts. However, there is a problem with the drawings account. Most equity accounts have a credit balance, but a drawings account has a debit balance. The program reads my drawings account to have a credit balance. How can I make the program read the drawings account correctly as a debit balance? Thanks.

To resolve the issue with the drawings account in Simply Accounting 2008 (student version), you can try the following steps:

1. Open Simply Accounting and navigate to your company file.

2. Go to the "Chart of Accounts" section, usually found under the "Lists" or "Setup" menu.

3. Locate the drawings account in the chart of accounts list.

4. Click on the drawings account to open its settings or properties.

5. Look for an option or field that allows you to specify the account balance type. It may be called "Account Type," "Normal Balance," or something similar.

6. Make sure the account type or balance is set to "Debit."

7. Save the changes and exit the account settings.

By setting the drawings account to be a debit account, you should ensure that Simply Accounting reads it correctly as having a debit balance. This is important because a drawings account typically shows a reduction in the owner's equity, which is considered a debit entry.

If you still encounter issues or cannot find the specific option for account balance type, it is advisable to consult the Simply Accounting user guide or contact their customer support for further assistance.
