An advertisement states that 8 thermometers cost \$12.42 minus a 3% discount. Dr wants to order a dozen to take advantage of the savings, sales tax is 5% What would the cost be? I divided 8 into \$12.42 with \$1.55 per thermometer. \$1.55 x 12 thermometer = \$18.60 \$18.60 x 5% tax = 93cents \$18.60 + .93 = \$19.53 \$19.53 x 3%disc = 59cents 19.53 - .59 =18.94 Is this right? Thanks

You need to find the discounted price before you figure the sales tax.
