Homework Help: math

Posted by LASTDAYS on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 4:53pm.

An advertisement states that 8 thermometers cost $12.42 minus a 3% discount. Dr wants to order a dozen to take advantage of the savings, sales tax is 5% What would the cost be? I divided 8 into $12.42 with $1.55 per thermometer. $1.55 x 12 thermometer = $18.60 $18.60 x 5% tax = 93cents $18.60 + .93 = $19.53 $19.53 x 3%disc = 59cents 19.53 - .59 =18.94 Is this right? Thanks
