Two cars leave town at the same time going in opposite direactions.One travels 44 mi/h and the other 55 mi/h. In how many hours will they be 297 miles apart?

Let that time be t hours
then
44t + 55t = 297
99t = 297
t = 297/9
= 37 hours

check: in 3 hours first car went 3(44) or 132 mi
second car went 3(55) or 165 miles
total = 297 , close enough
