First you need to replace the x in the original equation with the given variable 48-7y

8(48-7y) + 3y = -40

384 -56y +3y=-40

-56y + 3y = -40 - 384

-53y = -424

-53y/-53=-424/-53

y=8 x=-8

Ordered pair (8,-8)
