during a recent telethon people pledged $25 or $50. twice as many people pledged $25 as $50. altogether, $18000 was pledged. how many people pledged $25?

Let x = # pledging $25 and Y = # pledging $50.

x = 2y

25x + 50y = 18000

Substitute 2y for x in the second equation to solve for y. Put that value in the first equation to find x. Check by putting both values into the second equation.
