Hi,

I just have a question about this assignment I have. It says to complete an internet search to find at least two instances of conflicts between the legal and ethical issues confronting the education of ELLs. "For example, some states have ceased funding for bilingual education and may not instruct the ELLs in their native languages. However, the issue still remains that the schools are responsible for instructing ELLs and those students have to learn English in order to succeed in school."

Is me teacher looking for websites that discuss this issue or she is asking for specific issues that are currently taking place in any school or state?

I have found a few websites to add in this that show ways to improve the problem and better explain the issue. I can't post these website links, but I used Google to find these. I actually have about 5 of them, but I just want to know exactly which type of instances she is looking for in this assignment.

Thanks.

This is the key part of your assignment:

. . . find at least two instances of conflicts between the legal and ethical issues confronting the education of ELLs.

I believe your teacher is looking for the issues taking place in any school or state. She wants you to support your knowledge of these issues with websites.

In my experience, instructing each child in his/her first language is nearly impossible. For instance, in my small rural Michigan school district, we had one Laotian student. I can't imagine that we had a qualified Laotian teacher to instruct him in his own language. Another time years ago we hired a college-educated psychologist who was a native Spanish-speaker. But the poor Mexican child he tried to test didn't understand him because of huge differences in vocabulary and dialect.

Awesome, I got you. Thanks so much. That is what I thought it was, but I wanted to clarify. Thanks again.

Hi there,

Based on the information you provided, it seems like your teacher wants you to find specific instances or examples of conflicts between legal and ethical issues confronting the education of English Language Learners (ELLs). It could be either specific issues currently taking place in schools or states, or websites that discuss this issue.

To fulfill this requirement, you can use a variety of search strategies. The following steps can help you find the information you need:

1. Consider using different search terms: Start by using relevant keywords to narrow down your search. For example, you can search for "conflicts between legal and ethical issues in education of ELLs" or "disputes surrounding bilingual education for ELLs."

2. Explore educational websites: Look for reputable websites related to education, such as educational organizations, educational journals, or governmental education departments. These sources often provide insights into specific instances or cases concerning conflicts between legal and ethical issues in ELL education.

3. Include specific state or region names: If your assignment allows, you can also include the name of a specific state or region in your search terms. This may help you find instances where conflicts exist in a particular location.

4. Utilize databases: If your school or university has access to educational databases, use them to search for scholarly articles or case studies on conflicts related to ELL education. These sources often offer in-depth analysis and specific instances.

Remember to evaluate the credibility and reliability of the sources you find. Look for reputable and authoritative websites, and check if the information is supported by evidence and research.

Once you have found the specific instances or websites, you can then discuss the conflicts and address how they relate to the legal and ethical issues facing the education of ELLs.

Good luck with your assignment!
