**Ms. Sue**, Friday, March 5, 2010 at 4:30pmI added 6 to both sides of the equation.

The 6's on the left side of the equation cancel each other out. That leaves x = 8 + 6

**Ms. Sue**, Friday, March 5, 2010 at 6:23pmThe object is to get the unknowns on one side of the equation and the knowns on the other side.

On the left side, the original equation is: 5x - 6

We need to add 6 to both sides in order to move it to the right side.
