1) The guilds controlled the proper quality of goods, laid down the rules concerning apprenticeship and organised fairs where their members sold their produce. Moreover, they prepared biblical plays to be performed in various places of the town on particular feast days.
2) He introduced a system of law which became known as Common Law since it was used everywhere by travelling judges. This system of law was based on custom, comparisons, previous cases and previous decisions.
