here is the question:
A sapphire gemstone contains 52.7% aluminum, 47.% oxygen, and traces of titanium. If the saoohire was found to contain 0.155g of oxygen, what is the mass of the gemstone?
i think this is a precent unit factor but i don't know how to set it up.
PLEASE HELP ME!
Is that 47.0% oxygen or some other number?
If 47.0% oxygen, then we have
52.7% Al, 47.0% oxygen, and 0.3% Ti.
I set the oxygen up as
0.470 x what number = 0.155 grams
number = 0.155/0.470 = yy grams for the gemstone
thank you so very much for your help!
ammonia reacts with diatomic oxygen to form nitric oxide and water vapor:4NH3+5O2=4NO+6H2O what is the theoretical yeild of water in moles when 40 g NH3 and 50g O2 are mixed and allowed to react
Considering the percentage factor might not be enough. I think the AMU(amotic mass unit) of each element also affects because all three elements in this example have different densities.
To solve this problem, we can set up a proportion using the given percentages and the mass of oxygen.
First, let's convert the given percentage of oxygen into a decimal. In this case, 47.% oxygen can be written as 0.47 (since percentages can be understood as the number divided by 100).
Now we can set up the proportion:
(0.47 / 100) = (0.155 / x)
In the proportion above, 0.47 represents the fraction of oxygen in the gemstone, 0.155 represents the mass of oxygen given, and x represents the mass of the gemstone that we need to find.
To solve for x, we can cross multiply and then divide:
0.47x = 0.155 * 100
0.47x = 15.5
x = 15.5 / 0.47
x ≈ 32.98 g
Therefore, the mass of the gemstone is approximately 32.98 grams.
