If your parents are not able to pay your tuition and no scholarships are available, then it might make sense to get some work experience first to save money for college. You will also have more time to think about what you really want to do with your life.
The disadvantages are (especially if your work experience is more than just a year or two): not attending with students you own age, rising tuition costs, and entering the job market at a later age. This will usually lower your lifetime earning potential. Unless your work experience job provides useful writing, analysis and math skills for college and a later professional life, you may start forgetting things that you learned in high school, making college harder.
