Homework Help: math

I need help with this problem.
If someone can do it step by step that would be great.
I can't get the problem correct?
I keep getting 26.

3 - 1/8a = 1/4
the book says it's 22.

3 - 1/8a = 1/4

-1/8a = 1/4 - 3
a = -2 3/4 divided by -1/8
a = -11/4 * -8/1
a = 88/4
a = 22
