over 2x
x+4=3/4
over 2x
2x+2.4=3x
2x+8=3x
answer: 8=x

1/2 + 2/x =3/4
Multiply both sides by x.
1/2 x + 2 = 3/4 x
Subtract 1/2 x from both sides.
2 = 1/4 x
Multiply both sides by 4.
x = 8
