What do you think is the whole point of going to school?
To recieve education ofcourse. Good grades come in handy in the future.
Puropose of homework--good grades, appreciation from teacher, effort mark, etc.
By the Way this doesn't look like math to me.
Most information is not retained unless you go over and over it. The time in school is not enough to absorb the information. These articles might give some insight to studying.
