8/x= −1/3x+5 solve the equation.

    Is the denominator on the right 3, 3x or (3x +5) ? You need to use parentheses to clarify equations like that, when they are typed on a single line.

    If you mean
    8/x = -1/(3x+5), then
    8(3x+5) = -x
    25x = -40
    x = -8/5
