The simile describing tom's voice as
"Tom talked incessantly, exulting and laughing, but his voice was as remote from Jordan and me as the foreign clamor on the sidewalk or the tumult of the elevated overhead." serves to

a. compare tom's voice with urban cacophony
b. raise the questions of immigration
c. emphasize Nick's altered perception of the situation
d. emphasize the confusion surrounding the present situation
e. establish the image of a crowded and noisy city

im thinking if it's c or e because in this case nick is describing the situation how its noisy but he's isolated from the city and focus on his life now
