Details: This is a Capstone Project where you will utilize all the information we’ve learned thus far in the session.
For this assignment you will be preparing a presentation analyzing a single example of poor decision making. The presentation is intended to be delivered to other managers who make decisions similar to the one(s) that you are analyzing. Your goal is to help these managers “learn” from the example so they can avoid making the same mistakes.

To begin you will need to use the use the AIU Library, the Internet, and course resources to locate a single example (from business, news reports, government, economics, history, and so forth) where decisions made produced negative consequences.

Examples of the types of decisions you may choose from include: (you may use one of these or select one on your own)

Decision to allow the Challenger shuttle to fly in cold weather
Decision by Martha Stewart to lie to federal prosecutors
Decision by Coca-Cola to introduce “New Coke”
Decision by Enron executives to commit fraud
These are only a few examples. There are literally thousands of decisions you can choose from if you do a bit of research. Please do not analyze a personal decision. The decision you are analyzing must be supported by published resources.

Remember that in presentations slides focus only on main points with the specific information and details about each point identified within speaker’s notes (speaker's notes contain all the information needed by the speaker to address each main point on each slide in detail). Your presentation does not need graphics (although they are acceptable in moderation) or special effects. (If you are unfamiliar with how to use PowerPoint please visit the PowerPoint Guide in the Student Success Learning Lab).

Your presentation should address each of the following:

PART 1 - A brief description of the decision being analyzed. Outline the situation (what happened, when, where), identify what decisions were made and why, who made them, and explain the negative consequences that resulted. The more detailed you are here the easier it will be for you to provide analysis for parts 2 & 3 of the project.
PART 2 - From our learning all semester (Units 1, 2, 3, & 4) identify what decision concepts (theories, principles, heuristics, traps, etc.) were present in the situation. For each concept identified be sure to provide information to support how and why you believe each was present. At a minimum you must identify at least one concept from each of the last 4 units of learning (the more concepts identified and supported the higher your grade).
PART 3 - Provide an overview focusing on what other managers, who make similar types of decisions, can learn from your analysis so they can become better decision makers.

APA Resources are available in the APA Citation Center in the Library.

Choose Library from the top navigation bar.
Click the APA Citation Center link, located on the left side of the Library page.
Click Example Sources for the Library APA Citation Guide and other links with dozens of APA citation examples.
Click Sample Papers to view properly APA formatted papers, and find tutorials about formatting an APA paper.

You can access the AIU LIBRARY RESOURCE GUIDE by clicking here.

Your report MUST include a reference list. All research should be cited in the body of the slides and speaker notes of the presentation. Discussion Board essays and Individual Projects without references and citations may not earn any higher grade than a 'C' letter grade. Your report should contain an abstract, a short introduction, and conclusion in addition to the body of the paper. Please note that if you have a source in your reference section, you need to cite it in the body of the paper per APA guidelines and vice-versa.
Please submit your assignment as a PowerPoint Presentation in APA Style 6th edition format.

Objective: The Objective of the Unit 4 IP Assignment will involve the following the Course Outcomes and Grading Criteria with their respective percentages for the Grading Rubric:

Part 1 – Use effective communication techniques in outlining a decision scenario (20%)
Part 2 – Identify decision models (decision concepts) relevant to chosen example from all semester (units 1, 2, 3, & 4) and use effective communication techniques to support each (50%)
Part 3 – Use effective communication techniques to synthesize analysis (parts 1 & 2) (20%)
APA Formatting (10%)

To complete this assignment, you will need to follow these steps:

1. Choose a topic: Select a single example of poor decision-making from business, news reports, government, economics, history, or any other field. It should be a decision that resulted in negative consequences and is supported by published resources. Some examples provided are the decision to allow the Challenger shuttle to fly in cold weather, Martha Stewart's decision to lie to federal prosecutors, Coca-Cola's decision to introduce "New Coke," or Enron executives' decision to commit fraud. Conduct research using the AIU Library, the Internet, and course resources to find information about your chosen example.

2. Create an outline: Begin by creating an outline for your presentation. Part 1 should provide a brief description of the decision you are analyzing. Include details about the situation, such as what happened, when and where it occurred, the decisions made, who made them, and the resulting negative consequences. The more detailed you are in this section, the easier it will be to analyze the decision in parts 2 and 3.

3. Identify decision concepts: In part 2, you will analyze the decision using concepts learned throughout the semester in Units 1, 2, 3, and 4. Identify relevant decision models, theories, principles, heuristics, traps, or any other concepts discussed in the course. For each concept identified, explain how and why it was present in the situation. Aim to identify at least one concept from each of the four units, but the more concepts you identify and support, the higher your grade may be.

4. Provide insights for other managers: Part 3 should focus on what other managers, who make similar types of decisions, can learn from your analysis to become better decision-makers. Synthesize the analysis from parts 1 and 2 and provide an overview of the key takeaways for these managers. Explain what they can learn, how they can apply it to their decision-making processes, and how it can help them avoid similar negative consequences in the future.

5. Format your presentation: Ensure that your presentation adheres to APA Style 6th edition format. Include a reference list for all the sources you used in your research. Citations should be included in the body of your slides and speaker notes. Your report should also contain an abstract, a short introduction, and a conclusion in addition to the body of the presentation. Remember that slides should focus on main points, with detailed information and supporting evidence included in the speaker's notes.

6. Proofread and revise: Before submitting your final PowerPoint presentation, review it for any grammatical, spelling, or formatting errors. Make any necessary revisions to ensure that your content is clear and concise.

7. Submit your assignment: Once you have completed your PowerPoint presentation and are satisfied with the content and formatting, submit it according to your instructor's instructions.

Following these steps will help you successfully complete this Capstone Project assignment. Good luck!
