Since your assignment seems to be about the 50s, you should talk about the Korean War which started in 1950. We didn't get involved in Vietnam until late 1959.

Yes, you're right. I probably threw you off by suggesting you talk about the Korean War. However, since Korea is in east Asia, not southeast Asia, your assignment doesn't involve Korea.
