Homework Help: science

Hi again. A question about the digestive system. How does teh digestive system help the circulation system to function properely? I was thinking that the answer would be that...
Because the function of teh digestive system is a chemical and physical breakdown of food into molecules small enough to pass into cells, and the circulation system transports these nutrients and dissolved gasses, I am thinking that they need each other. The digestive system works first and then the circulation system transports the broken down food. Is this correct?

Thanks
