Can you please check the grammar in the sentence thank you.

Another Country begins with Rufus walking the streets of Seventh Avenue, hungry, broke, and having nowhere to go until he makes his way to a jazz bar.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

How can "another country begins?"

"Streets of Seventh Avenue?" Seventh Avenue is just one street.

If he has nowhere to go, then why does he go to a jazz bar?
