It's main function began in 1906, but its roots go earlier than that. It wasn't called the FDA for many years later.

So was the FDA established in 1862 as the Department of Agriculture?
Thanks.
The FDA didn't get that name until 1930.
Please read that article carefully.
Did the FDA become established in 1848?
Thanks.
I know that the FDA was referred to as the Wiley Act named after the chief advocate. I also know that the main function for the FDA started in 1906 but the roots go back earlier than that. I want to say that it started in 1848 but I am not positive. Did the establishment of the FDA start as early as 1848?
Thanks.
