expected return on a roll of 1 = (1/6)*1 = .1667
expected return on a roll of 2 = (1/6)*2 = .3333
expected return on a roll of 3 = (1/6)*3 = .5
expected return on a roll of 4 = (1/6)*4 = .6667
expected return on a roll of 5 = (1/6)*5 = .8333
expected return on a roll of 6 = (1/6)*6 = 1.0
the sum of the above is $3.50
