You need to use a common denominator and equivalent fractions when adding or subtracting fractions.
The common denominator for 8, 4, and 24 is 24.
7/8 = 21/24
3/4 = 18/24
Add the numerators:
21/24 + 18/24 + 15/24 = 54/24 = 2 6/24 = 2 1/4
