Why is this phrase a subject-verb agreement? "Did you know a famous animal-rights activist has criticized horseracing because of the dangers involved?"

The subject and the verb form are both singular. That means they "agree" (or match).
subject - activist
verb - has criticized ("has" is the singular 3rd person form needed here because "activist" is singular)
