find the limit as x reaches infinite with the equation x^2-5/2x+1

  • calculus - MathMate, Monday, October 26, 2009 at 12:48am

Remember to ADD parentheses around the numerator and denominator when transcribing fractions.

    f(x) = (x²-5)/(2x+1)
By long division, we can reduce f(x) to
    f(x) = (1/2)x - 1/4 + 19/(4(2x+1))
    Lim x→∞ (1/2)x - 1/4 + 19/(4(2x+1))
    = ∞ + 0 + 0
    = ∞
