Why is rate of reaction important to scientists?

Rate of reaction is just that. If it is to fast (as in dynamite), one can't contain nor manage it. If it is to slow, one has to deal with other factors. Frankly, in industry, engineers deal with this much more than scientists, as engineers are in charge of making things work (and making money).
