for adding to numbers first we have to consider the signs of the given two numbers if two sings are same we can add them and put the same sigh what the two numbers has for example

    3+4=7
    -3-4=-7

if the two sings are diffrent we have to subtract them and put the greater number sign
    For example
    -7 + 4 = -3
    4 - 8 = -4
In your question both the numbers are same but it has diffrent signs so we have sings so we have to subtract them
    -5 + 5 =0
