A common noun is the name of a person place, thing, or idea.
Examples: dog, family, town, school, street, girl, safety
A proper noun names a specific person, place, thing, or idea. Proper nouns are always capitalized.
Examples: Lassie, the Jones family, Newport, South Elementary School, Main Street, Jenny, Christianity.

Lets start from the beginning.
A noun is a word that stands for a person,place,thing or idea. It can be singular or plural.
A common noun doesn't need to begin with a capital letter.
A Proper noun is a name given to a specific person,place or thing. A proper noun begins with a capital letter.
for ex. Proper Noun= Does Emma really want to move to Europe.
Common Noun= The farmer plowed his fields.
