Can someone please check my work?

I was in Grade One.
We went to the pumpkin patch.
I got a really big pumpkin.
I tripped while carrying it.
I bit into the pumpkin.
And lost one of my front teeth.

Fui en primer curso.
Fuimos al terreno de calabaza.
Obtuve un muy grande calabaza.
Tropecé mientras (carrying)la calabaza.
Mordí en la calabaza.
Y perdí uno de mi dientes.

I need to know if my Spanish is correct. If not please correct me.

Gracias!

Wouldn't it be "una calabaza muy grande"?

The 'to carry' verb is 'llevar'. I would conjugate it as imperfect tense here, but preterit might be OK.
Isn't "mientras" followed by "que" ?
I am not sure if "en" is needed after "mordí "

SraMcGin will have the last word on this.

Depending upon what you have in mind, the first sentence could be "Estaba"

Either "una gran calabaza" = a famous one
or una calabaza grande = big in size
was carrying = llevaba OR estaba llevando
I bit on = OK as is
perdí uno de los dientes

Let's check your Spanish sentences:

1. "Fui en primer curso" - This translates to "I went in first grade." It's grammatically correct, but a more common way to say it would be "Estaba en primer grado" or "Estuve en primer grado."

2. "Fuimos al terreno de calabaza" - This translates to "We went to the pumpkin patch." It's grammatically correct.

3. "Obtuve un muy grande calabaza" - This translates to "I got a very big pumpkin." The correct form would be "Obtuve una calabaza muy grande." In Spanish, the adjective usually comes after the noun.

4. "Tropecé mientras (carrying)la calabaza" - This translates to "I tripped while (carrying) the pumpkin." The word for "carrying" in Spanish is "cargando." The corrected sentence would be "Tropecé mientras cargaba la calabaza."

5. "Mordí en la calabaza" - This translates to "I bit into the pumpkin." It's grammatically correct.

6. "Y perdí uno de mi dientes" - This translates to "And I lost one of my teeth." The word for "tooth" in Spanish is "diente," and for "my" it should be "mis" (plural). The corrected sentence would be "Y perdí uno de mis dientes."

So, the corrected version of your Spanish sentences would be:

"Estaba en primer grado.
Fuimos al terreno de calabazas.
Obtuve una calabaza muy grande.
Tropecé mientras cargaba la calabaza.
Mordí la calabaza.
Y perdí uno de mis dientes."

I hope this helps!
