what causes an acid-base reaction to occur? (hint: think about the products that form)
I know salt and water form but I don't know why it happens...
A typical acid/base reaction is
HCl + NaOH ==> NaCl + H2O
The net ionic equation for the above reaction is
H^+ + OH^- ==> H2O
That's the driving force for the reaction.
