What exactly is nationalism and why did it grow as much as it did in the 19th century?

  Nationalism refers to an ideology, a sentiment, a form of culture, or a social movement that focuses on the nation. Meaning patriotism, sort of. Like the people love their nation. Nationalism has become one of the most significant political and social forces in history, perhaps most notably as a major influence or cause of World War I and especially World War II.
