Homework Help Forum: Math

Asha plans to place vacation photos of her friends on a square bulletin board measuring 72 units by 72 units.

a) Which size of phot can be placed without any spaces or overlapping?

10 X 8
6 X 4
5 x 7

Hmm -- If she used 10 x 8 photos, she'd have 2 units of spaces.

    72 / 10 = 7 a remainder of 2

Which of the other two answers will work?

  • Math - Van, Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 4:39pm

    Not sure

  • Math - Ms. Sue, Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 4:42pm

    72 / 6 = ?
    72 / 4 = ?
    72 / 5 = ?
    72 / 7 = ?

  • Math - Van, Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 4:43pm

    Would it be 6 x 4? because 72/6 = 12

  • Math - Ms. Sue, Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 4:45pm

Right. And 72/4 also comes out even.

  • Math - Van, Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 4:46pm

  • Math - Van, Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 4:49pm

b? So how many photos of that size can be placed on the bulletin board?

  • Math - Van, Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 4:51pm

So would 30 photos be able to fit on the square bulletin board measuring 72 x 72

  • Math - Ms. Sue, Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 4:52pm

Along one side you could place 12 photos and along another side you could place 18 photos.

    Multiply:

    12 * 18 = ?

  • Math - Van, Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 4:55pm

ohh... 216 photos can be placed on the bulletin board.

  • Math - Ms. Sue, Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 5:05pm
