The width of a rectangle is fixed at 27 cm. What lengths will make the perimeter greater than 96cm?

Let L be the length. The width is w = 27
The perimeter is
P = 2L + 2w = 2L + 54
Solve the inequality
2L + 54 > 96
which is the same as
2L > 42
Divide both sides of the inequality by 2 for the answer. The > will remain pointed in the same direction.
