Homework Help Forum: Math Word problem

Can someone please help guide me with this one? I am not good at word problems I think I may be dislexic because sometimes I may add or misread a number incorrectly... Statistics. Beach Channel High School's football team scored one field goal (3pts) and gave up a touchdown (7pts) in the first quarter. In the third quarter, they scored another field goal and gave up a safety (2pts) They gave up a final field goal in the 4th quarter. By how much did they lose? I got 3 -7 + 2 - 2 - 2 = Is this correct or how would I begin to solve this question??

  Recheck: isn't it 3-7+3-2-3= This is the points they won by, it should be negative, indicating they lost.

  thank you bob... see I do not understand why I cannot get these right... either I am not paying attention when I read or I am really dislexic..
