Can someone please help guide me with this one? I am not good at word problems I think I may be dislexic because sometimes I may add or misread a number incorrectly...

Statistics. Beach Channel High School's football team scored one field goal (3pts) and gave up a touchdown (7pts) in the first quarter. In the third quarter, they scored another field goal and gave up a safety (2pts) They gave up a final field goal in the 4th quarter. By how much did they lose?

I got 3 -7 + 2 - 2 - 2 =

Is this correct or how would I begin to solve this question??

Recheck:

isn't it 3-7+3-2-3= This is the points they won by, it should be negative, indicating they lost.

thank you bob... see I do not understand why I cannot get these right... either I am not paying attention when I read or I am really dislexic..

To solve this question, we need to calculate the total points scored by Beach Channel High School's football team and the total points given up.

First, let's calculate the total points scored by the team. They scored one field goal (3 points) in the first quarter and another field goal (3 points) in the third quarter. So the total points scored by the team are 3 + 3 = 6 points.

Next, let's calculate the total points given up by the team. They gave up a touchdown (7 points) in the first quarter, a safety (2 points) in the third quarter, and another field goal (3 points) in the fourth quarter. So the total points given up by the team are 7 + 2 + 3 = 12 points.

Finally, to determine how much they lost by, we subtract the total points scored by the team from the total points given up. In this case, it would be 12 - 6 = 6 points.

So, Beach Channel High School's football team lost by 6 points.
