How much longer (percentage) is a onemile race than a 1500 race?

Math
Ms. Sue,
1500 what? What units are used for the 1500race?

Math
Carrie,
oh sorry about that, it is 1500 m

Math
Reiny,
one mile = 1.609344 km
= 1609.344 m
so the excess distance over the 1500 m race
= (1609.344 1500) m
= 106.344 m
as a percentage that would be
109.344/1500 = .0728 or appr. 7.3%
Math
Carrie,
Thank you!

Math
Ms. Sue,
There are several ways to figure this problem. I took the easy way and converted 100 meters to miles at this site
http://www.metricconversions.org/length/meterstomiles.htm
1500 meters = 0.932 mile
1 0.932 = 0.068
0.068 = 6.8%
OOPS ...Math
Reiny,
guilty of a transcript error.
last two lines should have been ...
as a percentage that would be
106.344/1500 = .0709 or appr. 7.1%
Math
Carrie,
I understand the concept thank you again!
