My daughter has a math problems that reads. Steve's birthday is between May 9 and May 23. The date of his birthday is not anodd number. The sum of the digits is 9. When is Steve's birthday?

  His birthday must be: 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, or 22 It can't be the 10th because 1 + 0 = 1 It can't be the 12th because 1 + 2 = 3 Let's see if she can figure this problem out from here.

  even number? adding to nine? well, even means the last digit is 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, between 9th and 23, so the first digit is 1 or 2. How can you get 1 or 2 added to one of the even digits to make 9?

  The answer is actually May 18. 18 is between 9 and 23, it is not an odd number and 1+8=9
