To Solve:

1/8=8^-1

8=2^3

1/8=2^3^-1=8^-1

=2^-3

Log_2 1/8 = log_2 2^-3

=-3log_2 2

x =-3

To Check:

2^x=1/8= 2^-3

x=-3

The exponential form has to be correct for you to proceed with the second part, otherwise the second part will not be correct.
