Look at figure 2.8 on page 40 and answer the following question in complete sentences:

Why was water transportation so important in those days? Hint: Would there have been major road ways at that time for horse drawn, or ox drawn wagons? How would all of the fur pelts be transported to Quebec, in order to be shipped to Europe?

Who would have built roads in those early days????

Using the waterways was the easiest way to transport goods in those days, it would also have been quicker than a horse or ox drawn wagon that did not have established roads to go on.
