What is "mating" and briefly describe when and where animals do it!

What is it: the process when gametes meet at the same place at the same time.

When and where it happens: Many animals have mating seasons that take place at certain times of the year to ensure that environmental conditions will be favourable for the development of their offspring. For example, sheep, goats, and deer mate i the fall and winter so that their offspring will be born in the sprign when conditions are less harsh. s mate in the summer, but because the time between fertilization and birt is long in horses, their offspring are also born in the spring. Mammals mate on land or in water, depending on the species. Land-dwelling mammals such as mountain goats mate i mountainous areas. their offspring are often born on very narrow ledges or steep slopes which provide protection from pedators. Water-dwelling mammals such as orcas mate in the ocean.

1st part: Need help simplifying it so 9/10 year olds understand.

2nd part: Need to shorten it alot. Like summarize it in a couple or few sentences.

thank you very much./

Just saying "HELP" does not help us. If this is BIOLOGY, state that. Not all of us do all the Subject Areas.

Sra (aka Mme)

How do you think you can shorten this?

I don't know about the vocabulary of 9/10 year olds, so you might want to define some terms — "gametes (sperm and egg)."

"What is it" is a question, requiring a question mark. Can either add that or change to "What it is."

If you are talking only about mammals, avoid the use of the term, "animals," since this is a much broader concept.

Can shorten by only giving one example (sheep, goats, deer) rather than two.

Where is better as a new paragraph. Rather than depending on species, isn't it their predominant environment? What about mammals that live in both water and land (e.g., seals)?

You need to be more careful about your typos.

I hope this helps a little more. Thanks for asking.

Mating is when male and female animals come together to have babies. It usually happens at certain times of the year when the environment is good for raising babies. Each animal has its own special time and place for mating. For example, some animals mate in the fall and winter so their babies are born in the spring when it's easier for them to grow. They mate on land or in water, depending on the kind of animal they are.
