Assume the bank statement was correct, and the checkbook balance was also correct. We can continue the statement as follows:
date deposit/cheque (+/-) Balance
March 15 - 56.75

?? -13.25 (check) 38.50
?? Deposit (Amount?) 87.37
Thus deposit required to change the balance from 38.50 to 87.37 would be
87.37-38.50=48.87
