I was given a thesis for my paper:

Character motivation withing various works of literature prove that only blindness can provide peace in society.

There are selected novels I must use for quotes. But what I don't understand is Character motivation.

Could someone explain what character motivation is to me?

character motivation is the reason behind the character's actions. It's what makes the character do what he/she does.

This motivation can be physical( a need to survive extreme hardship), mental ( a need to figure out a problem or situation) or emotional (sadness, fear, joy, etc.)

Certainly! Character motivation refers to the underlying reasons or drives that influence a character's thoughts, feelings, and actions within a story. It provides insight into why a character behaves the way they do, what their goals and desires are, and what compels them to make certain choices throughout the narrative.

To understand character motivation, you can analyze a character's background, their personality traits, their relationships with other characters, and any conflicts or challenges they face. By examining these elements, you can identify what motivates a character to act in a particular way or to pursue specific goals.

In the context of your thesis, you could explore how blindness, whether it be literal or metaphorical, affects a character's motivation and ultimately leads to the pursuit of peace in society. It would involve examining the selected novels provided and identifying instances where characters' motivations or desires are influenced by their level of blindness or lack thereof.

To delve deeper into character motivation, consider these steps:

1. Read and analyze the selected novels: Read the novels carefully, paying attention to how the characters' motivations are portrayed throughout the story. Look for key quotes or moments that reveal their desires, conflicts, and the factors that shape their decisions.

2. Identify character goals and desires: Take note of what the characters want to achieve or obtain, and why these goals matter to them. Consider how their motivations are affected by blindness and peace in society.

3. Examine conflicts and obstacles: Look for the conflicts or challenges characters face, as these often influence their motivations. Consider how blindness may impact their perception of these obstacles and influence their pursuit of peace.

4. Evaluate relationships: Explore the relationships between characters and how they impact their motivations. Analyzing interactions, conflicts, and alliances can provide insight into how blindness plays a role in shaping their desires and actions.

5. Look for patterns or recurring themes: Identify recurring patterns or themes related to character motivation and the pursuit of peace within society. Consider how blindness contributes to these patterns and what conclusions can be drawn from the evidence in the novels.

By following these steps and closely examining the characters' motivations within the selected novels, you can gain a deeper understanding of how blindness may play a role in suggesting that it is the only way to achieve peace in society.
