**PsyDAG**, Monday, May 11, 2009 at 2:58pmIf I understand you correctly, you are saying 2 to the 5th power divided by 2 to the third power. Online, this would be written as (2^5)/(2^3).

With exponents with a common base you divide by subtracting the exponents.

(2^5)/(2^3) = 2^2 = 4

To help you understand it better, think of 2^5 as 2*2*2*2*2 and 2^3 as 2*2*2. In dividing, three of the 2s will cancel each other out, leaving you with 2*2 = 2^2 = 4.

I hope this helps. Thanks for asking.
