Hi,

I am doing an essay on the topic "Our school should be free of all weapons - including the guns carried by a police officer.I am having difficulty coming up with a thesis statement, could you help me.

Thanks.

First of all, you need to decide if you agree or disagree with that statement. Once you've decided which side of the fence you're on (so to speak!), you'll be better able to write your thesis.

Remember -- the thesis statement needs to be the sentence in which you state the main idea of your paper -- which you intend to prove true by the end of your paper.

Hi, thanks your website was helpful.

I don't think armed police officers should be in our schools.
This is what i have so far:
"Although having police officers in our schools has proven a success rate in the decrease of violence and bullying, armed police is not a solution but rather an admission of failure to address developmental and emotional problems amongst our teens."

It still needs some tweaking. I feel that it's too specific.

What do you think?

You're going to have a tough time if you use that as a thesis statement. You're admitting that there is a successful situation with armed police officers on campuses, but you want to change it. Wow!

Try again!! DON'T MENTION the past success rate in your thesis!!

Of course, I would be happy to help you come up with a thesis statement for your essay on the topic "Our school should be free of all weapons - including the guns carried by a police officer." A thesis statement is a concise summary of the main point or argument of your essay that sets the tone and direction for the rest of your writing. It should be clear, specific, and debatable. Here is an example of a thesis statement for your essay:

"By advocating for a school environment completely free of all weapons, including the guns carried by a police officer, we prioritize the safety and well-being of all students, foster a more peaceful learning environment, and promote alternative strategies of conflict resolution."

To develop a thesis statement, it is important to consider your stance on the issue, the reasons supporting your argument, and the main points you will be discussing in your essay. In this case, you can reflect on the potential benefits of a weapon-free school environment, such as enhanced safety, reduced fear, and improved interpersonal relationships, while also acknowledging the concerns and counter-arguments that might arise, such as the role of law enforcement in school security. It may also be helpful to conduct further research on relevant statistics, studies, and real-life examples to bolster your argument.

Remember, your thesis statement should act as a roadmap for your essay and guide your readers through your main points and supporting evidence.
