Divide 30 by half and add 10. What do you get? I think it is 70, but my friend disagrees. He thinks it's 12.

It is 70 unless you are actually dividing by 2 instead of one half.

30 / (1/2) = 30 * 2 = 60
60 + 10 = 70
I don't understand how your friend got 12.

i think it is 25. Both your friend and you are wrong because when you divide 30 by half you get 15.So 15+10=25.

30 / 1/2 = 30 * 2 = 60

60 + 10 = 70

You are right!!! :-)

Your not dividing IN half, but BY half. I did it the way of using fractions. Because half is .5 or 1/2. I have no idea how he got 12 either!

Thank you Ms. Sue!

You're welcome, Erin!

To solve this problem, you need to follow the order of operations or the acronym "PEMDAS" (Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division - from left to right, and Addition and Subtraction - from left to right).

Step 1: Divide 30 by half.
To divide a number by half, you can multiply it by 2. So, 30 divided by half is equal to 30 multiplied by 2, which is 60.

Step 2: Add 10.
Now, after dividing 30 by half, you need to add 10 to the result. So, 60 + 10 equals 70.

Therefore, according to the correct order of operations, the answer is 70. Your friend's answer of 12 is incorrect because they did not divide 30 by half before adding 10.
