two points (-4,4) and (2,1)
m = slope = (Y1-Y1)/(X2-X1)
= (1-4)/(2+4) = -3/6 = -1/2
then put either point in:
y = -(1/2) x + b
1 = -(1/2) 2 + b
1 = -1 + b
b = 2
so
y = -(1/2) x + 2
I think you have a sign error in your answer for b
if parallel, same slope = -(1/2)
y = -(1/2) x + b
now the point in
6 = -(1/2)(-2) + b
6 = 1 + b
b = 5
so
y = -(1/2) x + 5
then perpendicular
m = -1/-(1/2) = 2
s
y = 2 x + b
3 = 2(1) + b
b = 1
so
y = 2 x + 1
By the way, you can always check the answers by seeing if all the points fit the line you come up with.
Thank you very much you really Helped!
