First of all, consider the structure of modern poetry. It is not necessary that a poem be in a recognized form. Someti mes capital letters are not even used at the beginning of a line. However, many still use the line-break. They can be used in place of punctuation and cn show where th e reader should pause for breath. Some poets use prose poems/free verse, etc.
Look for some of these things in your poem to see what makes it "modern."
