i don't understand how to do simultaneous solutions of linear functions. i don't understand what elimination is and how to substitute.

for eg. 4c-3d=11
3c-4d=17

is that elimination? how is it done?

Here is the substitution method.

Get one of the terms alone on one side of one equation.

4c = 11 + 3d

c = (11 + 3d)/4

Substitute the value for c in the second equation and solve for d.

3[(11 + 3d)/4]-4d=17

Put that value in the first equation to find the value for c. Put both values in the original second equation to check your answers.

I found this by searching google with the key terms "math elimination substitution."

In the future, you can find the information you desire more quickly, if you use appropriate key words to do your own search. Also see http://hanlib.sou.edu/searchtools/.

I hope this helps. Thanks for asking.
