I am trying to type a paper on word. I can't figure out how to turn off this function? when i go back and add text, it deletes what i have already written, letter by letter as i type. I can't just add a sentence in a paragraph because it is deleting. Any suggestions?

Check and make sure your "Insert" button is pressed on your keyboard.

Push the "insert" button ONCE.

It sounds like the function you're referring to is probably the "Overtype" mode in Word. This mode allows you to replace existing text as you type, which might be causing the issue you're experiencing. Here's how you can turn off the Overtype mode in Word:

1. Open your Word document.
2. Look for the status bar at the bottom of the Word window (it displays information about your document).
3. Find the letters "OVR" on the status bar. If you see them, it means the Overtype mode is currently enabled.
4. To turn off Overtype, simply double-click on the "OVR" text on the status bar. This should deactivate the mode, and you should be able to type normally without deleting existing text.

If your status bar doesn't show the "OVR" letters, you might need to follow these alternative steps:

1. Open your Word document.
2. Go to the "File" tab (the top-left corner of the Word window).
3. Click on "Options" from the list on the left-hand side.
4. In the Word Options dialog box, select the "Advanced" tab.
5. Scroll down until you find the "Editing options" section.
6. Locate the checkbox that says "Use the Insert key to control overtype mode" and make sure it's unchecked.
7. Click "OK" to save the changes.

By following these steps, you should be able to disable the Overtype mode in Word and prevent it from deleting your existing text as you add new content.
