make sure all the parts with fractions have the same denominator, then it should be easy.
7/8 = 14/16
So: 5 and 1/16 3 and 14/16

First, you need the common denominator so 3 7/8 = 3 14/16
5 1/16 3 14/16
Change: 5 1/16 to 4 17/16
4 17/16 3 14/16 = ?
