I need more information. Are you talking about sailboats or airplanes? Airfoils? I have no idea what ofall the shape means.

the surface area is the area of the sphere, the whole outside
Sa = 4 pi r^2
the lateral area is what you see looking from the side
La = pi r^2
the cross sectional area is what you see looking from the front (the same as the side for a sphere) pi r^2
