I don't know what the expression "CO2 THROUGH a dry sample" means. If you want to test a dry sample for carbonate, treat the dry sample with and acid, and bubble the liberated gas through limewater. A white ppt proves EITHER CO3^= or SO3^=. The odor of the SO2 is enough to differentiate between CO2 and SO2.
